QUAD-A ACADEMY: SECOND EDITION 2023

MAY 2023

← BACK TO NEWS & UPDATES

“We developed the Quad-A Academy Project to facilitate audio engineers’ training and build thriving careers in the entertainment industry in Africa.”

The first cohort equipped participants with the skills for quality regional content production. After certification, graduates secured positions at audio post-production facilities across the continent.

Objectives

  1. CLOSE THE GAP: reduce knowledge gaps in audio engineering while creating career opportunities, particularly for women and aspiring professionals.
  2. BUILD THE SKILL SET: develop skills in audio production and post-production for the film sector.
  3. CHANGE THE PERCEPTION: shift negative perceptions of audio production within the film industry.

Delivered across Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda with the British Council, AFD, Motiv, The Innovation Village, Africalia, I&P Investments, Bayimba, Zuh Culture, the Dolby Institute and Gemini Africa as partners, the programme received over 200 applications for 10 places, selecting 30% women and 70% men.

Ten audio engineers completed six months of intensive training to July 29, 2022, receiving certificates after module examinations. Top performers gained employment at facilities across the continent, and trainees worked on Amazon Prime Originals using industry-standard equipment along the way.

Second Edition

“This year, we focus on training audio engineers in advanced audio production and post-production.” With East Africa's first Dolby Atmos enabled facility as the classroom, students get hands-on time in genuinely immersive formats, not simulations of them.
