The Quad-A Academy Project exists to train audio engineers and build careers in African entertainment. Graduates leave equipped to work on quality regional content and, after certification, move directly into jobs at audio post facilities across the continent.
Objectives
- CLOSE THE GAP: reduce the knowledge gap in audio engineering across Africa while creating career opportunities, especially for women and aspiring engineers.
- BUILD THE SKILL SET: develop the audio production and post-production skills the film industry actually needs.
- CHANGE THE PERCEPTION: shift how the film industry views audio production, from afterthought to craft.
The programme runs across Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda, with partners including the British Council, AFD, Motiv, The Innovation Village, Africalia, I&P Investments, Bayimba, Zuh Culture, the Dolby Institute and Gemini Africa.
First Edition, In Numbers
Ten places were on offer for the first cohort; over 200 applications came in from across Africa, with the class landing at 30% women and 70% men. The group trained for six intense months to July 29, 2022, sitting exams across every module before certification. Top performers were hired directly, others found posts at facilities across the continent, and students worked on two Amazon Prime Originals during training using industry-standard equipment.
Third Edition
This year's edition centres on the art of FOH and broadcast production, with working industry engineers teaching the fundamentals across four core production areas, closing with exams and certification for the strongest performers. Quad-A Group remains East Africa's first Dolby Atmos enabled facility, and that stage is where the training happens.
