MUSIC MIXERUGANDA · EST 2004 · SOUND FOR SCREEN & STAGE
Composer · Sound designer · Re-recording mixer · FOH & systems engineer. Twenty years in African cinema sound and live production.
Twenty years in, the work still comes down to one idea: African stories deserve to sound as good as they look, on screen and in the room. That thread runs from scoring festival shorts in Kampala to mixing Burna Boy's 3 Cold Dishes, and from a jazz stage in Kampala to an isolated broadcast feed handed to an OB van. It is why I was named one of the top 10 composers out of Africa for the Red Sea Festival Labs. Quad-A now runs the first certified Dolby Atmos facility in East Africa and holds the Dolby training partnership for the region, so work that once had to leave the continent to be finished gets finished here. Credits with Disney and Prime Video open doors most engineers on this continent never get offered. I use them to put African sound in rooms it hasn't been in before, and to prove the stories don't need to change for the rest of the world to hear them.
33 scores for film, TV and documentary so far, from small festival shorts to Burna Boy's pan-African feature, 3 Cold Dishes.
Supervising sound editing, Foley, ADR and Dolby® immersive re-recording mixes, handled the same way whether the budget is festival-size or studio-size.
Front-of-house and systems engineering since 2008, from jazz rooms to open ground: coverage and delay design, RF coordination, Dante networks, and an isolated broadcast feed handed to the OB van.
Masterclasses at Durban FilmMart, workshops across East Africa, and the Quad-A Academy, where I teach the craft to people who didn't grow up with access to it.
Custom software and AI systems for companies, built on an Information Technology degree and years of shipping the tools that run my own businesses: web platforms, internal dashboards, and AI assistants that answer from a company's own data.
Film and TV are one part of what I do. Another is making physical spaces sound right: acoustic consultation on building and construction projects, AV installations, and acoustic solutions for industries most audio people never touch, including medical ENT audiology booths. A large part of that work is with churches: front-of-house, monitor and broadcast management for Houses of Worship that need their sound and stream to hold up every week, not just on a good night.
Working alongside architects and contractors from the design stage, so a room's acoustics are planned in rather than fixed after the fact.
System design and installation for spaces that need to sound as good as they look, from planning through to commissioning.
Acoustic treatment for medical and clinical environments, including ENT audiology booths, where accuracy isn't negotiable.
FOH, monitor and broadcast management for churches running live services and streams week after week, not just on the big Sundays.
Before any of the screen work there was a stage, and it never went away. I have run front-of-house and systems engineering since 2008, and from 2012 that has meant headline touring production across five houses in East and West Africa, joined over the years by Buzz Group Africa in 2017 and Show Gear in Lagos in 2023. A live rig is a network, a clock, a frequency plan and a gain structure long before it is a console, and the Information Technology degree is what lets me treat it that way. On a big show, most of what fails is one of those four things.
Headline concerts, festivals and mass gatherings. Jazz at acoustic levels, Afrobeats at full output, choirs and a band sharing one stage. One chance each night to get it right.
Array design, delay alignment and coverage across open ground, tuned by dual-channel FFT measurement so the correction answers what the venue is actually doing to the sound.
An isolated feed to the OB van carrying none of the house correction, held to EBU R128 and ATSC A/85, with language-split paths where a broadcast runs multi-lingual and multi-track capture for the mix afterwards.
Frequency scanning, intermodulation analysis and coordinated wireless for handhelds and in-ears, running over Dante networks I can configure down at the switch. Certified Dante Levels 1 and 2.
I hold a degree in Information Technology, and the same discipline that goes into a film mix goes into the software I build. Most of that work now is AI integration for companies: connecting language models to the systems a business already runs on, so the people inside it get real answers from their own records instead of another chat window. Web platforms, internal tools, automation, and the AI layer that ties them together, written in code so it can be tested, versioned and trusted.
Web applications, internal tools, client portals and learning platforms designed around how a company actually works, then built to keep working after launch.
Connecting AI models to your own data, documents and workflows: assistants that answer from company records, automate the repetitive work and leave the decisions to people.
Agents, pipelines and integrations programmed against the model APIs directly, with the guardrails, logging and fallbacks a business needs before it can rely on them.
An honest look at what a company runs on, where AI fits and where it doesn't, and a roadmap a small team can actually deliver.
